Use of tongue ultrasound in the detection of severe obstructive sleep apnea syndrome

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) significantly impacts the health and quality of life of patients and is a recognized risk factor for the induction of microsleep episodes during daily activities, particularly in occupations such as professional driving, where sustained attention is critical. The objective of the following study was to identify an effective screening test for use in outpatient settings, capable of distinguishing patients with a severe form of OSA. Patients who tested positive on this screening tool were subsequently prioritized for polysomnographic evaluation in a sleep laboratory.
