Hypoglossal nerve stimulation therapy in pediatric patients with obstructive sleep apnea

Hypoglossal nerve stimulation (HNS) therapy has gained popularity among patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) seeking an alternative to continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy. The growth of HNS has been particularly high among older adults living with OSA. Consistent and appropriate use of HNS in the geriatric population faces unique age-related barriers: a high rate of multiple chronic conditions (MCCs) and polypharmacy (taking five or more medications). These barriers and everything related to HNS are addressed in this article.
