Identification of clinical markers can facilitate early detection of OSA

The gold standard for diagnosing obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) is polysomnography (PSG), but identifying clinical markers can facilitate early detection. Tongue scalloping (TS) indicates upper airway obstruction, but its diagnostic relevance in OSAS requires further investigation. The present study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of TS in obese individuals with high-risk characteristics for sleep-disordered breathing, as well as to assess its correlation with polysomnographic parameters compared with snoring and daytime sleepiness.
