The prevalence, symptoms, and treatment of obstructive sleep apnea in children with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome

This article aims to evaluate the prevalence of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), oropharyngeal symptoms, and surgical treatment of OSA in children with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS) compared with controls. Its findings indicate that children with EDS are at increased risk of developing OSA and other oropharyngeal symptoms such as dysphagia and dysphonia. These patients are also more likely to undergo adenotonsillar surgery as the first option for correcting obstructive sleep apnea. Otolaryngologists and speech-language pathologists can play a pivotal role in the management and treatment of oropharyngeal symptoms in pediatric patients with EDS.
