Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and insomnia are the two most prevalent sleep disorders, which often coexist in a condition called comorbid insomnia and sleep apnea (COMISA). While autonomic nervous system (ANS) dysfunction resulting from each of these disorders has been established separately through heart rate variability (HRV) analysis, specific nocturnal ANS disturbances due to COMISA have not been explored. This study aimed to characterize nocturnal ANS disturbances attributable to COMISA through temporal and frequency HRV analysis, distinguishing them from those of insomnia or OSA alone.
